TL;DR: Maybe. If your needs are basic and your shop already uses RingCentral phones, its tool can be enough. If you want something sophisticated that works the way your team works, and a team that runs it and improves it for you, a done-for-you voice Agent is the better fit.
"Should I just use the AI receptionist in my phone system?" It is a fair question, and owners ask it a lot. It is one switch. There is no new company to call.
We set up voice Agents for auto repair shops, tire shops, car detailers, mobile mechanics and mobile tire changing companies. We also work with other service businesses like them. We sell one of the two options in this post. So what we say RingCentral's tool does and costs comes from its own pages, read on November 2, 2026. Anything from outside reviews is labeled. We also tell you when RingCentral is enough.
RingCentral says its receptionist answers calls day and night and can take many calls at the same time. Here is what its product page lists:
When a call needs a person, RingCentral says the tool passes it to your team "with an attached call summary".
On its Canadian pricing page, the tool by itself starts at CA$69 a month with 100 minutes included. Extra minutes cost CA$0.70 each, billed in 30-second steps. With RingCentral phones, the page says it starts at CA$55 for the receptionist plus CA$40 for the phone plan, each month.
Do the math for a busier month. At 300 minutes, the listed starting price comes to about CA$209: CA$69, plus 200 extra minutes at CA$0.70. Prices change, so check the page before you decide.
This is a low price for software. Our service costs more, because a team builds it, connects it and runs it for you.
Both answer at night, on weekends and on holidays. Both take a caller's details. Good voices are common now, so the voice alone is not what sets one provider apart. The difference is what happens after the caller hangs up, and everything built around the call.
With our Agent, when a call needs your team, the request reaches them while the caller is still on the phone. It shows up in two places: a message in your team's chat and a card on your shop's customer board. The note holds the name, the phone number, the vehicle and what the caller wants, in their own words. It also has a short summary of the call. Every hand-off also shows up in your daily and weekly reports.
Here is a real one. In October, a caller wanted five jobs done in one visit, including a brake job. The Agent did not guess at the time. It took every detail and sent it to the team during the call. The team called back, already knew the job, and booked it. We explain the hand-off step by step in another post.
RingCentral says its tool hands off a call with a summary and keeps transcripts. We did not find, on the pages we read, where that summary lands for your team or whether the request becomes a card on a board. That is a good question to ask them before you buy.
RingCentral's page says you can sync your customer, scheduling and online store tools. The tools it names are sales systems such as Salesforce and HubSpot, plus Google and Outlook calendars. It marks some of the syncing as "coming soon". We did not see auto shop software on that list. The page also does not say who sets up the connections. Ask them.
With us, we do the connecting. We hook the Agent up to the tools your team already uses: shop software, service business software and your calendar. If it runs on the web, we can usually connect it. Then we set it up and customize it to the way your team works. You do not learn a new system.
RingCentral's pages describe a receptionist that answers calls and texts and books appointments. That is useful. We build the rest of the front office around it:
It is a system, not just a phone feature.
RingCentral sells the software. Its pages say you can set it up in minutes, build it from your website and shape its personality yourself. That is a real strength if you like to handle it. We found no mention of a team that listens to your calls each day.
Think about the work after the first week. You have to tune the tool. You have to fix what it gets wrong, watch the calls, add new things and make small changes as your shop changes. It is a lot of work, and it never ends. You likely do not have the time.
We do it for you. We build the Agent for your shop. Our team reviews real calls every day and makes it better every week. If a call goes wrong, you text us and we fix it. You get support from a team that keeps watch and does this all day.
We looked at published reviews of RingCentral's tool. These are reviewers' opinions, not facts. They are worth turning into your own tests:
Test any tool, ours included, on your hardest real call. Do not test it on "What are your hours?"
Start with RingCentral if most of these are true:
In that case, try it first. It costs little to find out. RingCentral is a ready-made option, like a suit off the rack. It fits most people well enough.
Ours is the tailor-made suit. Look at it if these sound more like your shop:
Our clients want the phone handled the way their best service advisor would handle it, without having to manage a tool. They want real results from this technology. If you are weighing a person against software, read should you really replace your receptionist first.
If you do not know how many calls you miss today, start there. Our free 7-day Call-Leak Check shows your own numbers, and this post explains how many calls a shop really misses. You can also see how our texting Agent works.
If it is already in your phone plan and your needs are basic, yes, try it. Want a system built around your team, advanced technology, and people who keep it sharp? A done-for-you AI receptionist is the better choice.
